Overall Rating. Superb. I have been a patient of Dr. Spitz’s SmileBoston dental practice for well over a decade. I consider Dr. Spitz and his entire dental team to be technically superb, and in all other aspects of their dental practice, equally exceptional. Duration of Rater’s Experience. I don’t say this lightly or without what I consider to be a reasonably robust set of experiences, as well as an extended time period for review. More than a decade, in fact. With regard to time period, I should note that I began as a patient of Dr. Spitz’s predecessor in 1989. (I am a 64 year old corporate lawyer.) That dentist, who also taught courses at Tufts Dental school, found in Dr. Spitz’s practice both the high clinical skills and sensitivity to patient needs that would make entrusting his patients to Dr. Spitz something he could do with a high level of confidence as he prepared to retire. Range of Experiences. I have had a wide range of dental needs provided by SmileBoston. This has included basic cleanings and fillings to treating infections, performing root canals, molding crowns, and an extraction, bone rehabilitation and complete tooth replacement with an implant. From pain management to overall health management, I felt (and regularly researched and confirmed) that Dr. Spitz continued to incorporate cutting edge technology and procedures combined with a keen eye for performing the basics with excellence. For Those Reluctant to Seek Treatment for Overdue Repairs or Restoration. During and following the recession I had to reluctantly delay some treatment. I felt entirely comfortable having overdue work done by Dr. Spitz and his team. To be candid, the relief one can feel from having an overdue problem fixed right—by welcoming and supportive clinicians and staff—is a Godsend. For Those Concerned About COVID-19 Precautions. I am in one of the CDC’s designated higher risk group because of age and multiple other factors. Since August of 2020 I have made eight (8) safe and comfortable visits to SmileBoston for treatment. As I anticipated, Dr. Spitz equipped almost every room with surgical quality air scrubbers. The SmileBoston team is well-versed in all the appropriate safety protocols regarding masks, shields, gloves, wiping down surfaces, etc. In addition, they’ve paid careful attention to the sequence of patients arriving and departing to avoid close contact. I have felt very safe and well cared for in this regard in each of the (many) appointments and procedures I’ve had during the pandemic. Special Note Regarding Endodontic Treatment - Root Canals: Dr. Susan Han is, arguably, a true maestro of her profession. I have had a number of root canals over the past 40 years and while techniques have naturally advanced, the difference between Dr. Han’s skill-sets and those of other highly-rated endodontists I’ve seen in Boston is nothing short of remarkable. I thought her precision and dexterity were amazing five years ago during a root canal. When I had to have another root canal last year, I would swear she’s gotten even better—hard to do, given her starting point. I do not think you could do better, anywhere. Personal Observation. I have found Dr. Spitz consistently committed to “getting it right” over the years. In my corporate life, I’ve learned that the culture comes down from the top. SmileBoston appears to reflect that finding and Dr. Spitz’s high expectations of himself comes through in his colleagues’ approach toward patients, from front office to the dentist’s chair. I’m very pleased and look forward to my appointments! 🪥 Today I had two issues addressed by Dr. Taylor and both went very well. He was friendly and answered my before and after procedure questions. Andrew is a friendly face when you check in and check out. He also answers all of my billing questions and goes the extra mile when needed. I’ve been a patient at SmileBoston for 19 years so I’d say I’m happy with the care and services provided. Dr. Spitz gave me a smile that I can be proud of and feel confident flashing.
