Sedation Dentistry for Dental Anxiety
Here with my niece, I’m really pleased to be able to have this kind of, dental dentist treatment for her. When we were first starting out looking for a dentist here in the in the Boston area, it was quite a challenge to find anyone who would be able and willing to work with her to provide dental care for her anxiety. It was quite a challenge, and, we found it here at Swaddell Dentistry. Our, our objective was to find a dentist that she could trust and who would respect the fact that she had these disabilities or anxiety issues and her sensory issues as well. And we found that here. We found a doctor who would listen to her, take into consideration her own special needs, and, take care of her very well. She has in the past had dentists that she’s bitten and, threw things at, but that doesn’t happen here. Here she’s treated with respect and she is able to get the care that she needs, which is really what’s most important. Right. Because we started out just with the cleaning, and that took some minor sedation, the laughing gas type of thing. And then we moved on to the the larger thing. She’s had a root canals. She had the deep cleaning, I think it’s Yeah. She’s had, cavities, crowns, and all of those things, have been done here. When the deep sedation is leaded. It’s been a really special occasion because we’re the only patient here, and, she gets the care that she needs to make sure that she’s not in pain when it happens. Again, her sensory issues make it very difficult because drilling and and those kinds of sounds really, make her anxious. So here, they really take that into consideration while they’re doing the work. It took us almost five years to find anyone who would do it outside of a hospital. And to wait to do it in the hospital was probably a five year waiting period as well. So it was really important to find a safe place where the sedation could happen. And it took a long time. And, she had she had appointments with the dentist prior to the sedation so that she knew and trusted the dentist prior to having the more serious work done. You know, it’s a relief to finally have dental care that takes care of people with these kinds of anxiety and and special needs interests. It’s really hard to find. And to find a dentist who cares and who can do it and treats patients with respect in spite of their anxieties is, really special. And, we’re willing to pay whatever it costs to get it done. Once she leaves here, she says, I never wanna do that again. Yeah. But the next time it comes up for a cleaning, which is very often, she’s ready to go and knows that she’ll be treated with respect when she gets here. So it doesn’t make it a lot easier for her to come in to get her dentist here. But on the other hand, she actually doesn’t, and that’s what’s most important. Keep looking until you find a dentist that’s respectful of the needs of your person. So, that’s really important. You need to go to the dentist, meet the dentist, have the work done. And if it’s not you’re not treated with respect, go find somebody else. But I could tell you, you can find it here. The, the full sedation dentistry is a pretty unique thing. And I’m hoping that people who have anxiety disorders or other special needs will understand that it’s, really important to find someone who really respects people for who they are and how they relate to dentistry.
