Digital Radiography (X-Ray)

Digital radiography or x-rays are computer-generated images that require 90% less radiation than conventional film x-rays. A dental digital x-ray takes an x-ray picture of your teeth, and immediately displays it on a computer monitor, as sensors are utilized instead of traditional photographic film.

The main advantages include time saved for the patient and the doctor, as they are able to bypass chemical processing. They also create the ability to digitally transfer and enhance images for treatment planning. Using digital x-rays, less radiation is produced per image in contrast to conventional radiography.

In 2002, digital x-rays were an extremely progressive addition to our dental office, when the majority of dental offices were not yet using computers to take x-rays. It is a standard practice of Smileboston and is another piece of technology that allows our patients comfort in the dental office.
